The following Gulf Coast Humanist Association events are scheduled:
Please E-Mail us at bob@gulfcoasthumanist.org for more information.
September 1- Don Blair will discuss the recent avalanche of books on our subject....everything from Letter To A Christian Nation to The God Delusion, God is Not Great, American Fascists, several periodical articles including a major issue on the subject from Mother Jones, a surprising article in the Wall Street Journal, plus a few more. He will have all this material with him with powerful quotes marked from each and every book or article. But the most surprising of all may be Jesus for the Non-Religious by Bishop John Shelby Spong of the Newark Episcopal Diocese. He really, really speaks his mind and summarily dismisses some of the Bible's most sacred stories (or fables).
2008 Calendar
March 1- Marjorie El-Kadi will present a talk entitled “Iraq As I Knew It, Under Monarchy and Military” To quote Marjorie, “I'd like to present a fairer picture of Iraq and its past.” To see more about Marjorie, follow this link

June 7 - Excerpts from “The Atheism Tapes” - a DVD of the extended interviews that Jonathan Miller had with prominent philosophers, scientist, and others during the making of “A Brief History of Disbelief.”
JULY - WE WILL NOT HAVE A MEETING IN JULY AS MANY PEOPLE WILL BE AWAY.
August 2 - We will meet at a local restaurant to be named later to discuss “Our relations as Humanists to our families, friends and the general public.” Be thinking about some of the discussions you have had with others about Humanism and the problems and positive reactions you have received. How should we present ourselves and Humanism to those who don’t know anything about it?
November 1 - Here we are at November - I have been remiss in not keeping this up to date. We will have a talk by Bob La Salle about Creationism in the schools.
December 6 - 6 BARBARA WALKER The Gospel Truth: an Oxymoron
Barbara is an expert on the Bible and on organized religion. She has written a dozen books on religion and the place of women in religion. An atheist, she first rejected God as a child when told her pet dog could not go to heaven. A member of the Gulf Coast Humanists, Barbara is one of our favorite speakers.
