What a Humanist Celebrant is:

We are empowered to perform marriages, naming ceremonies, memorials and funerals, all with no reference to any supernatural being or power. The ceremonies are written either by the celebrant alone, in conjunction with the concerned individuals, or largely by the individuals. The place and any peripheral items such as refreshments, entertainment, etc. is provided by the individuals.

Experienced speaker (I give about 6-8 speeches per year), co-founder and former president of Gulf Coast Humanists Ass'n, member of Englewood Peace Initiative Coalition, founding member of Coffee Party, member of HUUmanists, Friends of the Library, ACLU, AHA, Englewood Art Center, NOW.Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club and Ocean Conservancy. Retired high school speech teacher from Minnesota (debate, speech coach and play director.) For last ten years of teaching ran an Alternative School in the morning for potential high school drop outs deficient in Basic Skills.

Retired from 35 years with Verizon, Bob moved to Englewood in 2003 and is now active in the theater community in Englewood. He appears regularly at Lemon Bay Playhouse on Dearborn St. Bob is an ordained member of the Church of Spiritual Humanism and has been certified by the Humanist Society, a subsidiary of the American Humanist Assn.
